Nala's New Pets

This was a full weekend!  Not only did we venture up to Yakima to watch the Lady Stangs take on River Ridge in the State Championship game, which was awesome even though they lost, but we also started a new adventure - we bought an aquarium on craigslist!  Exciting, yes, I know.  Steven has wanted one for awhile, so when he found a "steal" on a fully equipped 55 gallon aquarium, yes you read that right 55 gallons, we HAD to have it.  And thus it began.  It started with an hour long visit to pick up the aquarium and stand from a guy named Javier and get more than a lifetime's worth of knowledge about the "art" of owning freshwater fish.  When the aquarium was just a fleeting thought, it was always saltwater with a nemo fish or two.  However, after 5 minutes of Javier's expertise we realized that saltwater was way beyond our scope of how much time we wanted to put into this thing.  We brought the tank home, filled it with the hose (how else are you going to fill a 55 gallon tank?) and the fun began.  Javier was a great help and gave us bacteria filled sponges in the filter that came with the tank, so we didn't have to wait to get fish.  24 hours later we were at AquaTropics purchasing our new found fishy friends.  We ended up with two Black Skirted Tetras, two Paradise Fish, and two Red Tail Sharks.  We will add more next weekend (if these ones don't die on us!).
We weren't sure how the dogs would react to the fish tank with little fish swimming around.  My guess was that Coco would be intrigued and that Nala wouldn't notice.  I was wrong.  Nala was so interested in the fish (and continues to be, she's sitting watching them right now as I type).  She sat in front of the aquarium for over an hour just watching the fish and trying to "bite" the ones that swam by.  It was so funny!  Or, at least I thought it was funny.  So, in the end they became Nala's new fetish, thus why this post is called Nala's new pets.  Because, really, she thinks they are hers.  The aquarium is kind of loud and takes up a big corner of our dining room, but that's OK because it really is fun to sit and watch.  This morning I watched them for about five minutes while waiting for my coffee to brew.  We'll keep you all updated (whoever is reading this) on the progress of our little undersea village.  In the meantime, Nala will watch them for us and continue to believe they are there for her enjoyment.  And I will attempt to make myself believe that while we're gone during the day she sits and watches the fish swim imaging she can catch them instead of sleeping on the couch.

You have a new blog! Fun! :) Exciting news about the fish too. That's really funny how Nala likes watching them. She's like a little person.

I haven't blogged in three years! So I will have to get used to it again...good thing I have lots of friends who blog to draw inspiration from!
