Like everything else on this blog - this post is a few days behind. Did you all have a great Thanksgiving? We are still eating leftovers. The only thing I cooked this weekend was Turkey Harvest Soup using the leftover turkey carcass (yes, you read that correctly) and some leftover turkey. Between that and all the other stuff that followed us home from my parents I don't think I have to cook all week! Boo-yah. Thanksgiving bonus.
Wednesday before the big day we headed down to Prosser to stay the night with the family. We also headed out to see Arthur Christmas. I liked it. Not as much as Elf, but no Christmas movie can beat that. It was cute and heartwarming. And funny! Go see it - take the whole family. You will enjoy it (much more than that movie Jack & Jill that's out with Adam Sandler. Epic fail for that movie).
In true photojournalism style, our Thanksgiving day went a little something like this...
You can never have too many cooks in the kitchen. :-)
Phyllo wrapped asparagus - courtesy of Pinterest. Love that site. Mom did get a little crazy with the Kosher salt and thus only about half got eaten. Who knew you can have too much salt!
Yappy was helping Katie look at Black Friday deals. Update on Yappy - she bit both Steven and me on Thanksgiving. Really?!? I guess she is a little sick of house guests. I didn't even get a warning growl - she just went for it. Good thing she bites like a girl.
Dinner is served! And yes, we went buffet style this year. Not only was it easier, but kept the table looking awesome. Casual all the way! And do you see how nicely that bird was carved? That's because Mark watched Bobby Flay carve a turkey on Rachel Ray (Mark was Betty Crocker Student of the Year in high school). I guess thick slices is the way to go.
"Um, excuse me. Where's our dinner?"
The after dinner special courtesy of Our Creator. Gorgeous.
"Dinner's over. Time to set up the tree!"
I think Mom said that because Steven was there to help lug that thing downstairs. It was quite the chore! And it never quite works out the way you think it will...
The tree is up, he's tired but wait - what's up with the ring of death around the middle? This might take awhile....
"Wait, let me just shake this branch and then twist every single light on here..."
Success! And now we can all rest (and play games on our iPads).
This is Lucy. She is the oldest dog of the five (yes, five) that were at my parents. They have three, we have two. It makes for a lively get together. Oh, and don't let her sweet face fool you. She runs the show and has total freedom to sleep on the couch in front of the fireplace (my mom finally gave up getting mad at her and put a cover on it) and eats out of the garbage can until someone hits her.
Yes, we're an Apple family. Steven and Mark might have even tried Face Time (the Apple version of Skype but easier to use) while sitting next to each other in the living room. I have to say, it's pretty cool. We were all impressed with how well it works and excited because next Thanksgiving we will probably be Face Time-ing (word?) each other from across the Pacific and not from the other room.
"Can we go home now? I'm tired, Yappy hates me and I would like to sleep under the bed tonight."
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We have so many things to be thankful for this year. I am especially grateful that we got to spend this holiday with family and that we are blessed beyond belief at where God is taking us. It's crazy to think at this time next year, I will be attempting to cook a turkey in a tiny oven and wondering how to make green bean casserole without French Fried Onions.
And yes, our tree is up and decorated and Christmas music has been playing loudly since Friday morning. Let the fa-la-la-ing begin!
